    Howard Fischer (B.A., Yale, 1988; J.D., Columbia Law School, 1992), is a partner at the firm of Moses, Singer. He has extensive experience in trying complex financial disputes. As a former Senior Trial Counsel at the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC), he was entrusted with some of the most sophisticated and noteworthy cases that the federal government prosecuted in the last decade. Howard is recognized as a leading expert on securities disputes, enforcement proceedings, and securities regulations, including related to digital assets. He publishes frequently and his articles can be found in Barron’s, The Financial Times, Bloomberg Law, ThomsonReuters, Law360, and other sources as well. Previously, Howard was an associate in the litigation departments of Debevoise & Plimpton and Rosenman & Colin. He had also been a federal law clerk to Judge Constance Baker Motley, in the District Court for the Southern District of New York.

    Anthony Ivany (B.S., College of Staten Island, 2018; J.D., New York Law School, 2021) is an Associate at Hoffman Roth & Matlin, LLP.  At New York Law School, Anthony was a recipient of the Global Fellow Scholar Award (Full Tuition Merit Scholarship).   Anthony is experienced in various areas of the law, such as: Estate Planning, Estate Probate, Real Estate, Financial Law, and Medical Malpractice. He has interned at the Richmond County District Attorney’s Economic Crimes Bureau, as well as serving as a Judicial Intern for Hon. Alison M. Hamanjian of the Richmond County Family Court.  In his free time, he gives back to the community by volunteering as a football coach at a local high school. Anthony is admitted in New York and New Jersey.

    Carolyn Nelson (J.D, University of Michigan) is the founder and President of Nelson Test Prep, which focuses primarily on providing affordable LSAT instruction to those who traditionally underperform on the LSAT. As an undergraduate, Carolyn majored in Mathematics. She started her LSAT instruction career almost 20 years ago at Princeton Review and has subsequently taught LSAT courses for New York University (NYU) and the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund (PRLDEF), both while still practicing as a New Jersey commercial litigator. Carolyn has provided LSAT instruction and consulting services to many New York based Pipeline and PreLaw programs including: The Pre Law Institute at John Jay College of Criminal Justice; Fried Frank Pre-Law Scholars Program; LAWbound; Skadden, Arps Honors Program in Legal Studies and the Ronald H.     The Hon. Gerard E.Lynch is a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit, to which he was appointed by President Barack Obama in 2009. From 2000 to 2009, he served as a U.S. district judge for the Southern District of New York. An award-winning teacher and former federal prosecutor, he teaches courses on civil procedure and appellate advocacy. He is also a respected scholar who is the author of a book-length study of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, as well as many journal and law review articles on sentencing and other criminal justice issues.

    Lynch graduated first in his class from Columbia College and from Columbia Law School. He joined the faculty in 1977 and served as the Law School’s vice dean from 1992 to 1997.  During his tenure at Columbia Law, Lynch has been honored with all of the school’s most prestigious awards: the Medal for Excellence, which is presented annually to alumni and past or present faculty members who exemplify the qualities of character, intellect, and social and professional responsibility that the Law School seeks to instill in its students.

    Lynch began his career as a law clerk to Judge Wilfred Feinberg on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit and for Justice William Brennan Jr. on the U.S. Supreme Court. He was an assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York from 1980 to 1983 and the chief of the criminal division from 1990 to 1992. He has been counsel to several special prosecutors investigating government corruption and served from 1992 to 2000 as counsel to the New York firm of Howard, Darby & Levin and its successor firms.

    ABOUT ROBERT J. SCAMARDELLA

    Robert J. Scamardella is a life-long Staten Islander who graduated magna cum laude from the College of Staten Island in 1972 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. In 1975, he earned his Law Degree from Brooklyn Law School. He started his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney with the Richmond County District Attorney’s Office where he was the Chief of the Major Offense Bureau. Mr. Scamardella is an experienced Trial Attorney having litigated numerous Estate, Real Estate and Business Matters. He has particular experience in Will Contest, Breach of Contract and Business Owner Disputes. He also has extensive knowledge in Will Probate and Administration Matters, Business Formation, Business Owner Agreements, Residential and Commercial Real Estate Transactions, Elder Care Law and Estate Tax Planning. He oversees the Law Firm of Scamardella, Kasegrande, and Gervasi, and its Associates, while interacting with clients to address their personal needs. Mr. Scamardella has served on the Board of Directors of the Richmond County Bar Association and has chaired its Public Relations and Fee Arbitration Committees. In addition, Mr. Scamardella has served as Board Chairman of the Staten Island YMCA and the Eger Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. He currently sits on the Board of Directors of the YMCA of Greater New York and is a former Board Member of the College of Staten Island Foundation.

In response to this dramatic change, Staten Island Legal Services (SILS) opened its doors in 2004 to serve Staten Island residents and to fight poverty and seek racial, social, and economic justice.

    With over 30 dedicated and highly-trained staff, SILS assists approximately 7,500 low-income individuals and families a year in preventing evictions and foreclosure, preserving affordable housing and homeownership, obtaining access to education, supporting survivors of domestic violence, assisting applicants for immigration status, and engaging in LGBTQ/HIV+ advocacy.
